The intake is quick, the packages are laid out clearly, and a first-time filer can get an entity organized without needing to understand what any of the paperwork is called. The company has been doing this long enough to have the process smoothed down.

None of that is in dispute here. The objection is arithmetic, and it lives entirely in the billing interval.

Read the Interval, Then Multiply

The advertised registered agent price is $149. What sits beside it is a quarterly interval rather than an annual one.

Carried across twelve months that lands near $596, which our July 2026 review found to be the steepest effective annual cost among the services we priced for South Dakota work, with no introductory rate softening the first one. Quarterly billing is not itself dishonest and the interval is stated. What it does is split one uncomfortable figure into four comfortable ones, and four comfortable charges feel considerably smaller than the single number they add up to. That is the whole of the complaint.

A State That Legislates in Ten Dollar Increments

There is a reason $596 looks especially odd against a South Dakota backdrop, and it is worth a paragraph.

This is a state that writes small amounts into statute and means them. The fee for moving a registered agent is ten dollars, fixed at SDCL 59-11-3(3), and the legislature saw fit to set it there rather than leave it to an agency schedule. Mail the paper version instead and it becomes $25, because South Dakota adds a $15 surcharge to filings that arrive in an envelope, which is why the printed form shows the larger amount while the underlying charge stays at ten. Organizing an LLC here costs $150 online or $165 on paper. Annual reports run $55 electronically and $70 through the post, the same $15 riding along. Neither a state income tax nor a corporate income tax stands behind any of it.

South Dakota, in other words, will bother to price a piece of paper at fifteen dollars. Against a government that careful with a small number, one vendor asking roughly $596 a year to receive envelopes at a street address is a proportion worth noticing.

The South Dakota Filing That Ends a Swyft Filings Appointment

The instrument is a statement of change, covering your registered office, your registered agent, or both in the same document. It carries no number; South Dakota names its business forms and leaves them unnumbered, so you locate it by name on the state's published list of LLC documents.

You complete it with the entity name, the incoming agent, and that agent's actual South Dakota street address, then submit it electronically for $10 or mail the signed original with $25. The outgoing agent signs nothing and is given no opportunity to delay it.
